Applications are invited from qualified persons for admission into REGULAR (Full-Time) graduate programmes in the University of Cape Coast for the 2026/2027 academic year.

2.0     ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)

Candidates seeking admission to Ph.D programmes must:

  1. Have an M.Phil or research MA/M.Ed/M.Sc/MBA degree in an appropriate field of study from a recognised university.

OR

  1. Have MA/M.Ed/M.Sc/MBA degree in an appropriate field, with CGPA of 3.5 or better with not more than one grade C+. Also, have scored B+ or better in Research Methods course.
  2. All Non UCC Alumni are to submit two transcripts (one original) of academic record (UCC Alumni are to provide their registration number).
  3. Submit at least two referee reports, one of whom must be from a former Lecturer.
  4. Submit a 3-5 page proposal on intended area of study including references.
  5. Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the College/Faculty/School/ Department (e.g. selection interview)

 

Master of Philosophy/Commerce/Nursing (M.Phil/M.Com/MN) Programmes

Candidates seeking admission to M.Phil/M.Com/MN degree programmes must:

  1. Have obtained a good first degree (at least a second class division) in an appropriate field of study from a recognised university/analogous institution.
  2.  All Non UCC Alumni are to submit two transcripts (one original) of academic record (UCC Alumni are to provide their registration number).
  3. Submit at least two referee reports, one of whom must be from a former Lecturer.
  4. Submit a 2-3 page proposal on intended area of study including references.
  5. Pass a selection interview.
  6. Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the College/Faculty/School/  Department (e.g. selection interview/ working experience/ a written entrance examination).

Master of Arts/Science/Education/Business Administration (MA/M.Sc/M.Ed/MBA) Programmes

           Candidates seeking admission to MA/M.Sc/M.Ed/MBA degree programmes must:

  1. Have obtained a good first degree (at least a second class division) in an appropriate field of study from a recognised university/analogous institution.
  2. All Non UCC Alumni are to submit an official transcript of academic record (UCC Alumni are to provide their registration number).
  3. Submit names of two referees, one of whom must be a former Lecturer.
  4. Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the College/Faculty/School/ Department.

3.0   DURATION AND STRUCTURE OF PROGRAMMES

Ph.D

         36 Months -Full Time

The Ph.D programme shall consist of two parts. These shall be by one year of course work or directed reading, and two years for thesis writing which shall be a requirement for the award of the Ph.D.

M.Phil/M.Com/MN

         24 Months -Full Time

The M.Phil/M.Com/MN Programmes shall normally extend over four semesters (two academic years) and shall be in two parts. The first part shall consist of course work for one academic year (two semesters). On successful completion of the first part and on the recommendation of the Department’s Committee on Graduate Studies, a student may proceed to the second part comprising the writing of a thesis which shall be a requirement for the award of the M.Phil/M.Com/MN Degree.

MA/M.Sc/M.Ed/ MBA

        15 Months -Full Time

MA/M.Sc/M.Ed/MBA programmes are in two parts. The first part shall consist of two semesters of course work and the second part is made up of writing a dissertation which is a requirement for the award of the MA/M.Sc/M.Ed/MBA Degree

Candidates seeking admission into the Ph.D Agricultural Economics programme must have M.Phil in Agricultural Economics or a related field (including Mathematics, Statistics and Resource Economics etc.) from an accredited university. A considerable working experience in relevant field will be an advantage but not a prerequisite. Candidates who are judged by the Department not to have satisfied requisite      background courses would be required to take some courses in the M.Phil Agricultural Economics Programme.      

  • Ph.D (Non-Governmental Organisation Studies and Community Development) 

                 Entry requirements for PH.D in Ngo Studies & Community Development

 Candidates must have an M.Phil degree from a reputable university in any discipline. Candidates who are judged by the Department not to have satisfied requisite background courses would be required to take some courses in the University of Cape Coast, M.Phil NGO Studies and Community Development programme. 

  • M.Phil (Agricultural Extension)

               Entry requirements

Candidates must have obtained a good first degree (at least Second class Lower Division or better) from a recognized institution with minimum Cumulative Grade Point (CGPA) of 2.5 on a 1 – 4 scale or its equivalence in agriculture or related field. A considerable working experience preferably in Agriculture will be an advantage but not a prerequisite.

  • M.Phil (Agricultural Economics) 

            Entry Requirement

Candidates seeking admission into the M.Phil Agricultural Economics programme must possess a good first degree (at least second class lower division or better) from a  recognized institution or minimum Cumulative Grade Point (CGPA) of 2.5 or its equivalence in agriculture or related field (including Mathematics, Social Science, Statistics and Resource Economics). A considerable working experience preferably in Agriculture will be an advantage but not a prerequisite.

  • M.Phil (Non-Governmental Organisation Studies and Community Development)

4.4.1   SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY

Master of Nursing (MN) – Equivalent to an M.Phil degree

          Additional Entry Requirements         

          To qualify for admission an applicant:

  • Must have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing OR Midwifery with at least Second Class Lower Division from a recognised institution.
  • Should be a registered nurse or midwife with a valid PIN from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (N&MC) of Ghana or similar body in the case of foreign applicants
  • Must pass a selection interview
  • Applicants with MSc in Advanced Nursing Practice also qualify to do a 1-year top-up.

 

Master of Philosophy (Public Health Nursing)

          Additional Entry Requirements         

          To qualify for admission an applicant:

  • Must have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing OR Midwifery with at least Second Class Lower Division from a recognised institution.
